KNCV Van Marumpenning 2016 awarded to Jan van Maarseveen

The Royal Netherlands Chemical Society KNCV has awarded professor Jan van Maarseveen of the Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences its 'Van Marumpenning' in recognition of his contributions to the societal relevance and the public image of chemistry. He will receive the prize on 13 October at the KNCV event the 'Avond van de chemie' in Leiden.

Jan van Maarseveen, professor of Bio-inspired Organic Synthesis at the Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Synthesis and UvA Lecturer of the Year 2012, is awarded the Van Marumpenning 'because of his great enthousiasm in communicating the relevance and importance of chemistry for society', according to Sietse van der Sluis, who headed the selection committee. The KNCV recognizes Jan van Maarseveen as 'a true ambassador of chemistry and of science' because of his numerous appearances in national TV and radio and his contributions to de Universiteit van Nederland, NEMO and Artis.
