The appointment is for one year and will strengthen and enhance the collaborations between the UvA’s Research Priority Area Sustainable Chemistry and the Chemistry Department at Fudan University, with mutual visits, joint research projects and student exchange.

Sustainable synthesis

Rothenberg has long-standing collaborations with professors Hualong Xu and Wei Shen in Fudan, aimed at the sustainable synthesis of bulk- and fine-chemicals with projects supported by local government and industry. This has already resulted in three joint papers and a two-month research visit by Sustainable Chemistry MSc student Rolf Beerthuis. The current project will focus on oxidation catalysis, combining expertise from the two departments.

Fudan University, located in Shanghai, is one of the most prestigious universities in China. It is a member of the so-called C9 league (an alliance of nine elite Chinese universities) and ranks #40 in the QS World University Rankings.
