Brazilian cover for HIMS chemists
Science Without Borders collaboration with Brazil
The Heterogeneous Catalysis and Sustainable Chemistry group of the Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) has recently published a review paper in the Brazilian Chemical Society journal Química Nova. It is titled “Redes Metalorgânicas e suas Aplicações em Catálise” which means “Metal-organic Frameworks and their Applications in Catalysis”. The paper is featured on the cover of issue 1, 2014.
The paper in Química Nova is a result of the collaboration between the UvA and CAPES, the Brazilian agency responsible for evaluating and financing Graduate Programs. As part of its Science Without Borders programme chemical engineer Prof. André Luis Dantas Ramos from the Federal University of Sergipe (UFS) was granted a senior fellowship for one year with the HIMS research group led by Prof. Gadi Rothenberg.
The peer-reviewed journal Química Nova is one of the most important scientific journals in Brazil, published since 1978.
The Dutch-Brazilian article outlines the synthesis, characterization and applications of Metal-organic Frameworks, with a focus on vanadium- and lanthanide-based ones. The accompanying cover illustration was drawn by Itamar Daube.
In total the Brazilian Government invests over $1.5 billion in 4 years in the Science Without Borders programme. It aims at the consolidation and expansion of science, technology and innovation in Brazil, through 100,000 international exchange fellowships with excellent institutions in 40 different countries. So far, 1040 scholarships were granted in the Netherlands, of which 17 at the UvA.
