HIMS hosts National Chemistry Olympiad 2014
The Van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences is proud to host this year’s National Chemistry Olympiad at the Science Park Amsterdam from 30 May until 6 June.
During this week the third and final rounds of the Olympiad are held. Participants from Dutch secondary schools will compete to become one of four Dutch representatives at the International Chemistry Olympiad to be held this July in Hanoi (Vietnam).
From the hundreds of pupils who participated in the first round of the Olympiad at their schools, sixty contestants survived. Twenty of them passed the tests of the second round, which also took place at school.
The coming week these twenty finalists will participate in a full week of theory and practical sessions at the interface between the secondary school and university levels. HIMS scientists and students (both BSc and MSc) co-developed, prepared and organised the lectures and experiments. At the end of the week practical and theoretical exams will decide who will represent the Netherlands in Hanoi this summer.
Award Ceremony
The National Chemistry Olympiad concludes with an award ceremony at 6 June in the Zuiderkerk. Would you like to attend this award ceremony, please send an email:
