This year marks the 380th anniversary of the University of Amsterdam (UvA). In honour of this 76th ‘lustrum’ (anniversary occurring every five years), the UvA will be celebrating the opening of the academic year on a grand scale with the arrival of the ‘Glass House of Science and Scholarship’ (het Glazen Huis van de Wetenschap) . On Monday, 3 September from 09:30 to 18:15, the Spui in Amsterdam will be transformed into a public lecture hall.

A host of inspiring and renowned UvA professors will hold lectures in the Glass House of Science and Scholarship. During these lectures, they will examine the major questions that arise in their fields of study. Curiosity, the theme of the ‘lustrum’ year, will also be the theme of this lecture series.

Please come along and learn more about science and scholarship. The Glass House of Science and Scholarship will be open to the public the whole day.

Please note: the lectures will be held in Dutch

Ask a question and win an iPad

After each mini lecture in the Glass House of Science and Scholarship, you can ask the professor a question. This questions can be written down on a card, which can be found in the Glass House, and handed in on the spot.

After all the mini lectures have finished, a committee will select the most creative, original and curios question. The winner of the iPad will be informed personally.

After 3 September, a selection of questions, including the winning question, will be published on this site.
