With a history of over 80 years JSPS is an esteemed government-supported but administratively independent Japanese institution for the advancement of the sciences and the humanities. Promoting international scientific cooperation is one of its main tasks.
The four visiting scientists from Kanazawa University, located on Honshu, the main Japanese island, visited HIMS since they are all in the field of chemistry and materials science.
Their visit started off with a joint symposium on 'Innovative Materials Science Based on Supramolecules'. This was organized in cooperation with the Holland Research School of Molecular Chemistry and sponsored by the John van Geuns foundation, dedicated to the advancement of the study of chemistry at the University of Amsterdam. In the afternoon, the Japanese guests visited the HIMS laboratories for informal discussions with HIMS researchers.
