HIMS researcher Joen Hermans is one of the 25 nominees for the Science Talent Award 2019 issued by the Dutch edition of the magazine New Scientist.

New Scientist has just opened the voting boxes for the Science Talent Award 2019. You can vote for Hermans (or one of the other candidates) on the New Scientist voting page. Because it is a national competition, the page is in Dutch. The public votes will count for half of the final result of the candidates. The other half comes from a jury of professionals. You can support Hermans with your vote until 6 May.

Chemistry of oil paintings

Hermans’ research focuses on chemical changes in the paint of old oil paintings. In 2017 he was also a finalist in the Dutch final of the science pitch competition FameLab. You can still watch the video of his pitch (in English).

Award ceremony

On 31 May the winner of the Science Talent Award 2019 will be announced during the event New Scientist Live in TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht. On this evening the five talents with the highest scores will give presentations about their research. The winner will, next to the title, receive a prize of 2500 Euro.
