The 3MT or ‘three minute thesis’ competition challenges students to present their research in just 180 seconds, in an engaging form that can be understood by an audience with no background in the research area. Generally organised by hundreds of universities worldwide, the BH Futures Foundation in Bosnia and Herzegovina initiated a national competition for all students of local origin, studying at home or abroad. The 2023 edition saw 27 undergraduate, master's, and PhD participants, and the results were officially announced during an Online Award Ceremony held 24 June.

Ida Fazlić won the PhD award presenting her research into the drying of paint, in particular analysing how painters’ drying methods affect historic masterpieces. She performs her research under supervision of professors Katrien Keune and Bas de Bruin, Dr Marine Cotte (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility) and Dr Jitte Flapper (AkzoNobel). She is part of the InnovaXN doctoral training programme that focuses on industrial challenges and exploits the advanced characterisation techniques of the large-scale European research facilities in Grenoble, such as the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility.
