Prof. Noël says he is honoured with the award: “It is always encouraging when ideas and technologies that we are passionate about resonate with the broader scientific community. Recognitions such as these reinforce our belief that there is tremendous opportunity at the interface of technology and synthetic organic chemistry.”

Safer, faster, and more sustainable

Noël receives the award “for his outstanding contributions to the development of transformative technologies in modern drug discovery.” According to the announcement of the award, “through pioneering work combining flow chemistry, photochemistry, electrochemistry, and automation, Professor Noël has opened entirely new possibilities for accessing chemical space in a safer, faster, and more sustainable manner. What makes his achievements particularly remarkable is the way he bridges cutting-edge innovation with practical industrial application, enabling technologies that are now widely embraced across academia and pharma. His vision, creativity, and translational impact have made him one of the leading scientific innovators shaping the future of medicinal chemistry and chemical synthesis.”

The award is presented every two years by the European Federation for Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology, acknowledging the discovery, evaluation or use of a new technology. It consists of a diploma, € 7,500 and an invitation to present a lecture. The award will be presented to Prof. Noël at the opening ceremony of the EFMC Medicinal Chemistry 2026 conference in Basel, Switzerland, held 6–10 September. Prof. Noël will deliver his Award Plenary Lecture on Tuesday, 8 Sept.
