The Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences is named after Jacobus Henricus van 't Hoff, recipient of the first Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1901. From 1878 until 1896, Van 't Hoff was Professor of Chemistry, Mineralogy, and Geology at the University of Amsterdam.
