Associate professor Dr Francesco Mutti of the research group Biocatalysis has been admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). Mutti has been a member of the RSC since 2019.

The Fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) is an award conferred by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in the United Kingdom. Achieving Fellow status in the chemical profession denotes to the wider community a high level of accomplishment as a professional chemist. Eligibility for Fellow status applies to applicants who are Members of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC), with a minimum of 5 years professional experience. In addition, they must have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of the chemical sciences; or to the advancement of the chemical sciences as a profession; or have been distinguished in the management of a chemical sciences organization.

Dr Francesco Mutti joined the Van 't Hoff Institute of Molecular Sciences in July 2015 on a tenure-track position as leader of the Biocatalysis group. He is currently a tenured associate professor. Mutti is a recipient of European grants (Marie Curie fellowship, ERC Starting Grant), national Dutch grant (NWO-Echo, TKI) and other international fellowships (CSC, MIUR). He has published research articles in Science, Nat. Catal., Nat. Commun., JACS, Angew. Chem., Green Chem., several book chapters and five world patents. His research interests lie at the interface between chemical and biological sciences with focus on fundamental studies of enzyme catalysis and mechanism; enzyme engineering; the development of multi-enzymatic cascades either in batch or in flow for the sustainable manufacturing of chemical products; and synthetic biochemistry in vivo.
