HIMS Lecturers participated in first STEM-CPD Summer School

To guarantee that teaching and learning opportunities provided to students are of high quality, the European Chemistry Thematic Network (ECTN) and five European universities, among which the University of Amsterdam, have conducted a study to identify the needs for the professional development of lecturers in higher education.

The Roadmap for STEM continuous professional development (STEM-CPD) at European Universities provides recommendations with accompanying guidelines on how to develop and promote sustainable STEM continuous professional development (CPD) at universities by organising a bottom-up approach and introducing a new concept in CPD, the CPD-Ambassador, trained in the STEM-CPD Summer School.

STEM-CPD Summer School

Stefania Grecea, Lotte Schreuders and Bob Pirok from Van’t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) institute and Natasa Brouwer from Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) attended from 10 to 15 October the first STEM-CPD Summer School. This event was organised in Krakow at the Jagiellonian University as hybrid online by the Erasmus+ project STEM-CPD@EUni.

It was attended by 25 lecturers in higher education from 6 European countries aiming at acquiring knowledge about organising activities at their own universities that will specifically support educational innovation to improve the quality of higher education in STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The programme of the school was highly interactive and hands-on. It covered the fundamental concepts from the perspective of lecturers’ professional development and their technological, pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK). Natasa Brouwer who was also one of the trainers of this summer school gave a workshop on the use of digital technology and blended learning principles. The next STEM-CPD Summer School will be held in Naples in 2022.
