Spin-off companies LumetalliX, Nano Hybrids and NatInLab have been selected among the pre-finalists of the Amsterdam Science Innovation Awards 2023. A public vote helps to decide whether they will be selected for the finals, to be held 21 November. Voting is open until 15 October.

Nano Hybrids

Nano Hybrids has developed a technology to produces hybrid core-shell nanoparticles. Sustainable by design, Nano Hybrids’ objective is to simplify and reduce the environmental impact of nanoparticle synthesis so that other innovators can be provided with these amazing materials to find solutions to big societal challenges in fields as diverse as sustainable energy, catalysis and biomedicine. Nano Hybrids was co-founded by Dr Olivier Lugier (HIMS PhD graduate) and Dr Stefania Grecea (HIMS scientific staff). More information and voting.

LumetalliX

LumetalliX aims to provide a safe and accessible approach to lead detection. This is based on an innovative solution that effectively identifies even small traces of lead utilizing a unique reagent that makes lead light up. The technology has been extensively tested around the world and demonstrated its ease of use and reliability. LumetalliX was co-founded by Dr Lukas Helmbrecht (HIMS PhD graduate) and Prof. Wim Noorduin (HIMS scientific staff). More information and voting.

NatInLab

NatInLab is the startup company of Ewelina Weglarz-Tomczak who recently joined the HIMS Biocatalysis research group. With NatInLab she is working towards novel lysosomal protease inhibitors for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, employing AI-powered technology. More information and voting.
